Hi! I am very tired of pitching and don’t want to do it for the next while, it’s exhausting and takes a lot out of me to do especially given current circumstances. I want to produce great work and I’ll be continuing it for whatever publication lets me, but my ambitions are far lower this year beyond wanting to be the best creative I can be. So I’ve started this. Hopefully you’ll be able to get an essay on something every couple of weeks, whether that’s about a movie I’ve really liked and can’t find somewhere to talk about, or a wrestling match that means something to me, whatever comes to mind really. I might finish a few drafts like A Hidden Life’s portrayal of devotion to Christian spirituality outside of rigid theology in comparison to Kanye West’s Jesus is King, which portrays Christian faith as complete devotion to the image of the Church and the baggage that comes with it. This is the kind of place where you’ll see my ridiculous thoughts in action.
What extra will you get if you subscribe with a paid subscription? You will not receive any extra content because I’m the kind of person who wants to share all my work all the time and I don’t like paywalls, so it’s really just an option if you want to help me out and support my writing. The main bonus of this is that you can contact me about a certain thing you’d like me to write about, so if you’re my friend for example and want me to finally watch Attack on Titan, you can drop a few pounds for the Substack and request a piece on it and it’ll eventually happen if I can think of something to say. You’ll also have my warm gratitude and endless thanks for supporting an independent writer’s pursuit.
Finally, every week or two that an email comes to your inbox, after the main essay, you’ll see a recommendation list of all the favourite things I’ve been experiencing in that timeframe. If you’re interested in movies, you’ll get all the best ones I saw in that period and maybe a little blurb why, same for wrestling, music, games and whatever fond experiences I have. While my presence for other publications won’t die, and there is still one major thing I would like to pitch somewhere new, this will hopefully be home for a while. Just a place to feel safe and do my job without any of the other pressures. Hope to see you all down the road.
